Study of Chinese Learners' Pedagogical Choices in Korean

Then, the selections were matched with their linguistic performance in the DCTs to determine if they showed a pattern of resistance to pragmatics or not. The results of the MQs, DCTs and z-tests were examined using descriptive statistics and Z tests. The CLKs were found to use euphemistic terms such as "sorry" or "thank you". They also mentioned external factors, like relational advantages. For instance, they outlined how their relationships with professors facilitated an easier performance in regards to the linguistic and intercultural norms of their university.
The interviewees expressed concern about the social pressures or consequences they might face if their local social norms were violated. They were concerned that their native interactants might think they are "foreigners" and believe that they are incompetent. This worry was similar to the concerns expressed by Brown (2013) and Ishihara (2009).
These results suggest that native speakers pragmatic norms aren't the default preference for Korean learners. They may still be useful for official Korean proficiency tests. However, it is prudent for future researchers to reassess their relevance in specific scenarios and in various cultural contexts. This will allow them to better understand the effect of different cultural environments on the pragmatic behavior and classroom interactions of L2 students.
